CABIN & CONTAINER DELIVERY AND INSTALLATION

Working closely with the Hire and Sales divisions, the South Shore Trading Group Transport team specializes in USA-wide delivery and installation of our comprehensive range of cabins and containers on-site, for businesses and private individuals.

The fleet comprises fourteen vehicles, eleven of which are six or eight-wheel self-loading trucks, well-equipped to deliver cabins and containers in most locations.

SPECIAL CRANES

Five of the trucks are fitted with special state-of-the-art cranes which have extended reach, the ability to operate 360 degrees, and larger lift capacities. These are specifically designed for delivering to restricted access sites, saving a great deal of time when setting up large site compounds and modular buildings.

The crane vehicle fleet is supported by three trucks without cranes to move containers from the ports to our headquarters for inspection and grading before storage, a quality control step not many companies offer.

DELIVERY INFORMATION

As a general rule, we will send a truck capable of offloading whatever we are delivering to the side and at 90 degrees to the truck (just clear of the stabilizer leg) as depicted in the drawings below. If your delivery location requires anything significantly different, please let us know. We have larger cranes for specialist purposes and can accommodate many challenging deliveries with the right vehicle, including offloading in front of the cab.

• Our trucks are capable of delivering your cabin or container to the side and at 90 degrees to the truck, just clear of the stabilizer leg.

• Our fleet includes larger cranes for challenging situations, including offloading in front of the cab (please request a quote if this service is required).

• Consider the size of the truck in terms of the delivery location, including height restrictions, overhead obstructions, space for turning corners, and entering gates.

• South Shore Trading Group is not responsible for any damage to manhole or drain covers or surfaces (such as pavements, fields, or grass) during delivery.

• In the event of our vehicle getting stuck, you will be liable for the cost of recovery and any damage that results, as well as any parking or permit costs incurred.

DELIVERY AND COLLECTION QUESTIONNAIRE

We will work with your team to deliver accommodation or storage in a safe manner, placing it where you want it and working around inevitable site restrictions and parameters. If you have any concerns about delivery, please discuss these with us at an early stage to avoid incurring costs for abortive delivery attempts and wasted time for all those involved.

Fully-trained South Shore Trading Group drivers are equipped with PDAs linked to our office systems, which contain all pre-delivery information as advised by you, record all signatures, and take photographs of the unit once delivered.

SPECIAL VEHICLES

The fleet of thirteen vehicles includes nine 6 or 8-wheel rigid vehicles that can accommodate pairs of 24ft units with a trailer or a single 32ft load without. The larger of these rigid vehicles are fitted with front legs and 360-degree operation and are also used as flexible site cranes to manage safe, smooth, and efficient installs, moves, or site clearances for large construction, self-storage, or modular building projects.

One additional rigid vehicle is designed for multi-drop curbside deliveries of flat pack cabins and containers. Two arctic tractor units and specialist trailers support the crane fleet and move cabins and containers up to 45ft from port locations and from our manufacturing facilities to customers and depots.

The final special vehicle is an artic tractor unit designed for working solo in confined spaces or for the delivery of 40ft containers and longer cabins up to 45ft.

On any day, you may spot our hardworking team in blue and white South Shore Trading Group livery vehicles from coast to coast, transporting airside to agriculture, delivering cabins, containers, conversions, or classrooms.

SITE REQUIREMENTS

As a general rule, we will send a truck capable of offloading your order to the side and at 90 degrees to the truck (just clear of the stabilizer leg) as depicted in the drawing below. If your delivery location requires anything significantly different, please let us know. We have larger cranes for specialist purposes and can accommodate many challenging deliveries.

If the truck we choose is too big, it might not fit; too small, and we might not be able to reach the exact place you have in mind for delivery.

Please therefore bear in mind the size and weight of the truck, remembering to look at heights and overhead obstructions such as large branches or building overhangs, as well as below you for weight limits, soft ground, and weak manhole covers. Each truck wheel can carry up to 6 tonnes, so it has the ability to cause a lot of damage or delays if you do not tell us beforehand. If you are not sure, please initially discuss with your sales contact, and it’s your responsibility to note any concerns on your official order or with your online purchase.

ON DELIVERY DAY

On arrival, our drivers will report to your Site Manager to agree on a lifting plan before starting work and will level the container as required. Please note that if any corner needs leveling more than 200mm, you will need to let us know in advance. The drivers will ensure that all doors and apertures open correctly before leaving the site.

Our delivery team is trained to carry out all necessary assessments for safe installation, using standard generic risk assessment for unloading and loading of cabins and containers by truck-mounted crane. Please refer to our Health and Safety section for more information about our commitment to safety or discuss with your contact in Hire or Sales who will refer to the Transport team as required.

SPECIALIST SUPPORT

For more complex installations, which may involve multiple cabins, the Transport team can draw on additional support from our specialist in-house resources.

Our Appointed Person (AP) will attend the site and produce specific lift plans, together with method and risk assessments covering the whole installation as required.

For Linked Buildings and Modular Building installations and removals, the Installation team will assist the Transport team with the erection of gantries, complex staircases, and fitting between cabin links correctly, safely, and efficiently. The installation team will then complete, snag, and hand over the building quickly and efficiently so you can get on with your project work.

DELIVERY DETAILS

For deliveries in California, typical lead times, assuming the products are in stock, are five to ten working days. If an exact delivery date is crucial, please give as much notice as possible as the longer the lead time, the more likely we can help meet your target day. Please note that many sites ask for deliveries at the beginning of the week, so if you need a Monday or Tuesday, you will probably need to give more notice.

The compact and stackable nature of flat pack cabins, small single and double toilets means that we normally make up combined loads and deliver these extremely cost-effectively all over mainland USA. We have two very regular ‘Milk round’ routes: one through the West Coast and another one taking in the East Coast and the South.

In addition, we can deliver to remote locations, but these need to be separately quoted prices. We also have some regular deliveries to Hawaii and Alaska, so please do get in touch especially if you need a large number of flat pack or toilet units.

CHALLENGING LOCATIONS

With container deliveries, we are ideally placed to install in a range of unusual locations, using our larger cranes operated by our skilled and trained team.

If access is severely restricted, we can assist with mobile cranes and towable or flat pack accommodation to ensure you can provide suitable welfare accommodation wherever you need it.

As a company, we are able to maintain high standards for prompt and reliable delivery by operating our own managed vehicles, which makes the process much simpler. From time to time, we do work with other small sub-contractors who share our values and commitment to providing a first-class service.

We do offer a limited external hire service, with trucks occasionally available to hire by the hour or by the day, together with collection and delivery address postcodes for a quotation and availability.

COLLECTING FROM US USING YOUR OWN TRANSPORT

If a stock item has been designated for Click & Collect, you will be given an option to collect rather than pay for delivery. Only items that are fully paid for can be collected, and there is usually a small collection fee. We will contact you to agree on a collection date and time, and you will be given safety information and details so you or your drivers can safely collect your items.
